Sandfire Dragons

Our bearded dragons are our pets, and just like our children, we spoil and love them dearly! Each of our enclosures has a Zoo Med Reptisun uvb10 fluorescent bulb along with a ceramic heat lamp at one end to bask and to aid in proper digestion. Each of our dragons has driftwood to climb on, rocks to sit on and some kind of cave to hide in. Their lights are turned on and off close to the time the sun rises and sets to mimic nature. We also have cages for outside so the dragons can enjoy some real sun outside with out the worry of being in harms way.

Our dragons are fed dusted Lobster Roaches (Nauphoeta Cinerea) as their primary live food source, supplemented with waxworms, silkworms, goliath worms and occasionally superworms. They also get pinky rats and mice every few weeks. They are fed daily a variety of greens including collard and mustard greens, bok choy and kale(on occasion), supplemented with red, orange and yellow bell peppers, spineless cacti, tofu(pure protein),squash, zucchini, occasional shredded carrots and asparagus. Once every week or so they are given a small amount of fruit to enjoy as a treat. Each of our dragons has their own favorites of foods and treats just as people do.

Once a year the colony goes to the vet to get a full workup done- looked over, weighed (even though I have a scale at home for them), fecal tests and receive any kind of medications that may be necessary. The bearded dragons are also given plain yogurt and daily baths while they are on any kind of meds. Since switching from crickets to roaches there has been no need for meds. Clean bills of health for everyone!
